Pokémon Scarlet/Violet Reaches #1 Game in Livestreaming First Week

In its first week of release, Nintendo’s Pokémon Scarlet and Violet reached #1 in the live streaming charts  with 36.8 million hours watched. It also became the most successful Pokémon game for first week live streaming performance, beating out Legends: Arceus, released earlier this year, by 10M HW.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet officially released on November 18th for gamers and streamers alike to take their first steps into the Paldea region and embark on their brand new journey. Trainers choose from three starter Pokémon, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly to join them in the franchise’s first open world adventure.

During the game’s first week, Pokémon Scarlet/Violet beat out GTA V (28.5M HW) and Call of Duty MW2 (24M HW) for the title of top game in live streaming from Nov. 18 to Nov. 24 with just under 37M hours watched.

Top live streamers for Scarlet/Violet’s first week of release

Although the majority of Pokemon Scarlet/Violet watch time was generated on Twitch, Youtube Gaming made up about 33% of the viewership. For most top games in live streaming Youtube tends to generate less than 20%. 3 out of 5 of the top live streamers in the game’s first week streamed on YouTube Gaming

Japanese-speaking streamer 加藤純一です generated the most watch time with 1.3M hours watched, followed by Kuzuha Ch. who generated 812K hours watched on YouTube Gaming. Both creators averaged 30K+ viewers during their broadcasts that week. Knekro, Valkyae, and Sakura Miko generated 621K, 619K, and 577K hours watched, respectively.

Since 2019, Pokémon has had 4 major game releases; Pokémon Scarlet/Violet and Pokémon Arceus were released in 2022, the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl remake of the 2006 Nintendo DS game came out in 2021, and Pokémon Sword/Shield was released in 2019. Each game generated more first week hours watched than the previous release, indicating the lasting power and hype of the Pokémon franchise, one of Nintendo’s strongest.
