This Week’s Meta: Among Us

TL;DR: Among Us has risen to the top of the charts as one of the most watched games last week beating out titles like GTA V, CoD: Modern Warfare, and CS:GO.

With many top streamers playing together via custom matches, the strategic party game generated over 25 million hours watched from August 31st to September 6th. The sudden growth in the game’s viewership across Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming may be a glimpse into the newest trend in gaming. For years streamers have been playing various games together often with a common objective and possibly in a competitive fashion. Games like Among Us and even Fall Guys have flipped the script for a more casual, yet communal, opportunity for streamers to leverage each other’s audience while producing entertaining content. This type of casual, talkative format also pays homage to the growth of Just Chatting content that has been increasing year-over-year as live streaming and gaming content continue to expand their horizons.

  • Among Us ranked 6th out of all categories across Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming in total hours watched last week.
  • With only 16 hours of Among Us airtime last week, auronplay generated over 1.7M hours watched.
  • VEGETTA777 reached a peak of 223.7K viewers on YouTube Gaming when he debuted Among Us on his channel.
