GVC Top Ten: September 7th – September 13th

TL;DR: Among Us and Garena Free Fire climb to the top as League of Legends and Fortnite tumble.

Gaming trends often come in waves like we’ve seen with the rise of MOBAs and battle royales from previous years. Combine these trends with live streaming and the formula becomes even more volatile to create and retain viewership. With party games looking to be next in line, Among Us has been at the forefront of the hottest new wave with top-tier streamers coming together to create content. The game has even beat out the steadily increasing Just Chatting category last week. The lull in esports events and in-game seasonal releases marked the perfect avenue for Among Us, Garena Free Fire, and other titles to climb the chart.

Top Growing Titles:

  • Among Us rose over 80% in total hours watched last week as the game reached the #1 spot across Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming.
  • Garena Free Fire increased in hours watched for the second straight week as mobile games continue to carve out a larger market share.
  • Minecraft grew almost 18% in hours watched and was responsible for the third highest peak viewership on the list with about 737K viewers.

Top Declining Titles:

  • Fortnite decreased over 29% in hours watched resulting from the dip after the new season release created a spike in viewership.
  • League of Legends esports is preparing for Worlds as many of their leagues didn’t have games last week resulting in a decline of almost 25% in total hours watched.
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare dropped 18% coming down from the high caused by the creator codes and new 2020 title (Black Ops: Cold War) announcements.
