Helldivers 2 Dominates the Live-Streaming Arena

In the ever-evolving world of video games, few titles make an impact that resonates across live-streaming platforms. Helldivers 2, a sequel to the cult classic, has done just that. According to recent data, this strategic, squad-based shooter has not only captured the attention of players on Steam but has also become a staple in the live-streaming community.

Between February 8th and 21st, Helldivers 2 reached a staggering peak of 458K players on Steam, and hit an impressive daily average of 167K viewers on live streams. The nature of the game being a co-op third-person shooter attracted communities by the minute, correctly understanding that players want to play with their friends and conquer some planets. Helldivers 2 is capitalizing correctly on that urge.

Making History on Steam

When it comes to all-time highs on Steam, Helldivers 2 has carved out its place in history, securing the 20th spot with a peak of 458K concurrent players as of February 21st. This milestone is a clear indicator of the game’s success and its massive draw for gamers looking for high-quality, entertaining streaming content.

Helldivers 2 is The New Challenger in the Top 10

Not only has Helldivers 2 made a splash on Steam, but it has also ranked as the 10th most viewed game by average viewers across major live-streaming platforms during its first 12 days of release. It maintained 47K average viewers during this time period, about 9K viewers behind Minecraft. It also generated 960K hours watched during this time period. This places it among the ranks of industry giants, proving that it’s a title that knows how to hold its audience captive.

Helldivers 2 has seen incredible success through social media platforms as well. Creators have been sharing clips and memes of the game in short-form video content across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. A lot of hype was generated organically, growing exponentially as more and more videos were shared across social media.

This delayed organic success is reflected when looking at the Steam concurrent players and average live-streaming viewers chart. A lot of times when games are released, viewership peaks on the first day of release, with viewers and players falling off as the days go by, and the hype has died down. However, Helldivers 2’s trajectory did the opposite, growing steadily day by day and peaking an incredible 11 days after its initial release.

Viewership on live-streaming platforms did peak on the first day of release, but it maintained interest across the last several weeks, and had a renewed viewership peak on the 19th, the same day it broke its Steam peak concurrent player record.

The Perfect Title for Live-Streaming

As Helldivers 2 continues to dominate live-streaming charts, it’s clear that this is a game worth watching—and playing. Its viewership and player numbers is an incredible example of the power of influencers and creators can have on your video game marketing plan.
